Gaining a few pounds every year does not seem like a big deal. But overtime, those pounds really add up and before you know it, you are now overweight or obese. There are many dangers of being overweight and obese. Some of the dangers include: Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and much more.
Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death in the United States in 2009. Diabetes means that the blood sugar levels are way above normal. This can lead to heart disease, stroke, amputation, or even blindness. By losing weight, less medication might be necessary and other health problems can be avoided.
High blood pressure is another problem with being overweight. It is caused because the heart has to work harder in order to get blood to all cells. High blood pressure can lead to heart disease, kidney failure, or even cause a stroke. By losing weight, of course the blood pressure will lower. Exercising as well as reducing salt will also help.
Heart disease is a third health risk that people that are overweight could experience. Heart disease happens because a blood vessel that transports blood to the heart becomes thin and hard. That makes it difficult for the heart to get all of its needed blood which then can affect the heartbeat. This can cause a heart attack or heart failure. Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States.
Finally, strokes are very common for those that weigh more than they should. High blood pressure usually leads to strokes. Strokes happen when blood flow stops in a part of the brain which leads to some of the brain cells dying. By losing weight, blood pressure should lower and reduce the risk of a stroke.
Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and strokes are just a few of the risks people that are overweight could possibly experience. There are many more health risks. That is why losing weight now is important for your health and life!
